Paroxysmal Rhinorrhea after Medullary Infarct
نویسندگان
چکیده
Lateral medullary infarction, known as Wallenberg syndrome, can be accompanied by sympathetic dysfunction. We report a case of unilateral intermittent rhinorrhea that started after an ischemic stroke in the ipsilateral lateral medulla and cerebellum. Rhinorrhea might be mediated by dysfunction of the sympathetic autonomic system.

A Rare Case of Painful Trigeminal Neuropathy Secondary to Lateral Medullary Infarct: Neuroimaging and Electrophysiological Studies.
PURPOSE To report a rare case of painful trigeminal neuropathy after lateral medullary infarct and probe its underlying pathogenesis on the basis of neuroimaging and electrophysiological study. CASE REPORT A 45-year-old man presented acute onset of unsteady gait followed by paroxysmal and electric shock-like headache in the distribution of ophthalmic branch of left trigeminal nerve in 2 days....
متن کاملParoxysmal apnea and vasomotor instability following medullary infarction.
BACKGROUND Central hypoventilation and paroxysmal hypertension are uncommon complications of medullary infarction. To our knowledge, the combination of these autonomic complications of medullary stroke has not previously been reported. OBJECTIVE To describe a patient who experienced life-threatening paroxysmal attacks of central apnea and vasomotor instability 3 months after medullary infarct...
متن کاملSubjective Visual Vertical and Horizontal Abnormalities in a Patient with Lateral Medullary Syndrome-A Case Report
Introduction: Evaluation of persistent vertigo in post infarct patients is very important as the management depends on whether the cause is purely of central origin or due to associated vestibular affliction. Case Report: A patient with left sided dorsolateral medullary syndrome and persistent vestibular symptoms was evaluated. Vestibular test battery showed abnormal smooth pursuit, bilateral...
متن کاملBrain stem stroke causing baroreflex failure and paroxysmal hypertension.
BACKGROUND Paroxysmal neurogenic hypertension has been associated with a variety of diseases affecting the brain stem but has only rarely been reported after brain stem stroke. The mechanism is thought to involve increased sympathetic activity and baroreflex dysfunction. We undertook microneurographic recordings of muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MNSA) during beat-to-beat blood pressure (BP)...
متن کاملIsolated Hemiataxia and Cerebellar Diaschisis after a Small Dorsolateral Medullary Infarct
Isolated hemiataxia after a medullary infarct is rare. We describe a case of isolated hemiataxia after a small infarct localized at the ipsilateral dorsolateral medulla. An 83-year-old man developed acute onset of ataxia in the left arm and in both legs. Speech and extraocular movement were normal, and he did not have any other neurological manifestations. Brain MRI showed a small infarct local...
